38-year-old French writer-director Olivier Lassu
has developed a number of projects in two areas: discovery (of
art and culture), and psychology, especially around the matter
of violence.
In 1999, his film on the history of controlled education, Stand
Up Straight!, was awarded the Best Documentary Award at
the International Festival of Psychiatry in Paris. In 2002,
he directed a remarkable film, On the Rooftops of Paris,
coproduced by Ampersand / Arte France / France 5 / RTBF / TV5
Monde / ARTV / Raisat, a rare view of a legendary Paris, and
a technical and artistic achievement.
He is currently directing
(2006-2007) an ambitious mini-series of three episodes on the
origins and the role of colors in our lives: The World of
Colors, coproduced by Gedeon Programmes
and Arte in France; Electric Pictures and SBS in Australia; NHK in Japan, PBS in the United States. After the Outrage (2005),
a reflection on new strategies to help victims of violence overcome
their traumatic experience, is his first collaboration with the
production company InformAction Films in Montreal.
